HISTORY OF KENYA

Tourism in Kenya has a rich and diverse history that dates back to the early 20th century. The country’s diverse landscapes, wildlife, and cultures have long attracted visitors from around the world.  In the early 1900s, Kenya’s tourism industry was primarily focused on hunting and safari expeditions. European colonial officials, wealthy businessmen, and royalty were among the first tourists to visit Kenya, drawn by the prospect of big game hunting and adventure.

There are more than 60 different indigenous languages in Kenya. The official languages in Kenya are English-which is widely spoken to a high standard in the tourism industry and kiswahili which originates from the coastal or western region of Kenya. Other major languages include Kikuyu, luo, akamba and Maa(spoken mostly by maasai). Kenya’s various ethnic groups typically speak their mother tongues within their own communities. English is widely spoken in commerce, schooling, and government offices.
